Casa Raia

Our Vineyards

The Casa Raia vineyards are divided between Montalcino and Castiglione d’Orcia, each with unique characteristics that contribute to the complexity and variety of the wines produced.
Vineyard

Montalcino

In Montalcino, the vineyards are located around the estate, on the south-west side of the hill, directly beneath the medieval walls. This is where Brunello is made, from vines planted in 1975 on poor but skeletal and marl-rich soils, ideal for wines that are aged for an extensive period of time. Planted in 1997, 2011 and 2021, the northern terraces are the realm of Rosso di Montalcino production. The soils are composed of sand, silt, clay and stones, accommodating selected clones of Sangiovese Grosso.
Vineyard

Castiglione d'Orcia

In Castiglione d’Orcia, rather, the soils are loose and predominantly loamy. Here, along the Via Francigena, Pierre Jean took on vineyards of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cannaiolo that had been planted in 1997. In 2021, he planted new plots of Sangiovese, resulting in “Bevilo”, a fresh and elegant IGT Toscana, where Sangiovese remains the protagonist in a contemporary style blend. Since the outset, both vineyards have been cultivated in accordance with organic farming principles.
